The season is changing. The nights are getting cooler. The leaves are starting to change colour. The lambs are fattening out nicely. In fact Rambo’s mini-me, the young ram lamb – his life is going to change dramatically soon. Every time I look at him I start salivating and reaching for the mint sauce! And I think the rest of the family all want a bite as well. The season rolls on, just like the white butterfly laying their darn eggs on my brassicas. Yep the Brussel sprouts are supposed to go in early so that they grow before it’s too cold but I won’t be this early again next year coz it’s a near imposable task to keep them caterpillar free. The poor ole plants look like someone’s shot them with a 12 gauge. But it’s a good season as well. The figs have been dried and the apples are preserved. The jalapeños are the next to be dried and flaked. The fejoas are starting to fall which pleases the boss. The chooks have gone on the moult and Rambo is happy with his girlfriends – Mrs Hughes and Mrs Morton. I find it fascinating that we embrace and dance along with the rhythms of change in nature but sometimes find it so difficult to accept change in church life. Pondering… Well change is happening this morning as we gather as a church. It’s a small change and hopefully will be an acceptable change. We will now add to our ‘expectation’! If we can expect the God who speaks will speak to us and we will hear Him – then we open ourselves to have an encounter with Him – to encounter the risen Christ! And so we will journey together and explore how we might encounter Him. Blessings

Hi. As I promised last week – here is a poem. This was written by one of the participants who spent a few hours with God last Saturday morning at Lin Chu’s listening for God prayer time. We were encouraged to be still and allow God to speak to us from His ‘other book’ – Nature (Romans 1:20, Psalm 19:1).  Here goes…

God’s untamed beauty screams softly

drowning out the cicadas.

He is dangerously safe, smiling

as I cautiously approach.

God works restfully, unceasingly active

in His stillness.

He is delicately tough, like the one strand

of spider’s silk.

Diversely similar, leaves display

the creator’s stamp.

He ages youthfully

constantly regenerating.

Untamable.

I have options! To tell the story about weeds or tell the story about maggots – that is the question? Ok, weeds it is. Does God speak through nature? Last Saturday the ‘boss’ asked over breakfast what I wanted to achieve during the day. Just the word ‘achieve’ is so loaded with the ominous heaviness of a day of hard labour. Then she suggested what she wanted me to achieve…well the 1st on her list. “Darling could you cut down the weeds in the chook run?” Delightful start to the list! You see although it meant work it was no ordinary work as it necessitated using a machine with a motor that was designed for destruction. So armed with the brush cutter I headed into the large chook run to attack the summer weeds, some of which were about 6 foot high. Sweat pouring down…(that’s enough detail about where), weeds and gorse and blackberry flinging in all direction, bare legs getting stung by debris..nearly as close as you can get to a happy place without a chainsaw! And then God spoke! He spoke about the ‘weeds’ we let grow in our lives, the weeds of criticism, gossip, envy, back stabbing, jealousy, selfishness etc. He spoke about how by His Spirit he wanted to do some clearing up…and then I saw them. Nicely hidden under the thickest of weeds was a hens nest with 36 (rotten) eggs. What a waste. They were laid for my culinary delight…fried egg n cheese sandwiches…but here they were hidden by weeds and wasted. And He spoke again, “what is wasted in our lives because they are hidden by the weeds we allow to grow?” Maybe I can share about maggots next week…have a great day…

It’s a good day. A great day.  Not because I get a day off from preaching but rather that I’m so looking forward to hearing from The Principle of Carey Baptist College. He’s a good man, maybe even a great man – coz he’s a man who puts into practice what he preaches!

At the recent Members meeting it was decided that the process for new elders should be acted upon reasonably quickly – so here goes – I’ve chosen them! That was quick but that’s not how we do it around here. We are Baptist, which means we together seek the mind of Christ on such matters. Last week I asked you to start praying and so thanks for engaging in prayer and listening to what Jesus is saying about new elders. Also continue to pray for the 2 good blokes we already have, Ian and Russell.

How it will work: Pray. If God is speaking to you about someone who should be considered as an elder then go talk to them. If they agree to be nominated then you need to have someone second your nomination and then fill out the ‘nomination form’ which you can get from Anne. Nominations will close on Sunday 29th March. The names will be advertised to the church for a couple of weeks. These weeks are important, very important. They are the weeks you pray and also get to know the ‘possibles’ by inviting them for coffee, dinner or whatever. On Sunday 19th April we will have a special members meeting to hear what God is saying re the appointment of new elders. So that’s that, let’s engage with God and listen to what He’s is saying. Oh by the way this process can only be entered into by members – that’s one of the important things about being a member!

Blessings

Kevin
